Groveness (/ˈgroʊvnəs/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Lolqazgehv Hold, Ipoulan Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Groveness is derived from the Sylvin language, as Groveness was founded by Funacanus Connor, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Groveness has a yearly average temperature of 15°C (59°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a cool 17°C (62°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 13°C (55°F). Groveness receives an average of 247 cm/y (97 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Groveness covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 924 m (3031 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Groveness was founded durring the early 11th century, by Funacanus Connor. The establishment of Groveness was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Groveness's construction back out of the project. Funacanus Connor pushed on reguardles, and Groveness was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Groveness was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 11th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Groveness is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature delicute timber framework hidden behind layer upon layer of finly ground plaster bleached to an almost glossy white sheen, with green clay tiled roofs and decorative brass-leafed trim. Even the smallest, poorest looking structures appear to be expencive thanks to the extreem elegence of the organic shapes and paterns going into their lofty, spire-y, vagly gothic designs. The more well off folks live in identicle homes, save for even shiner trim and a more whimsical appearance to their structures flowing forms.

Groveness is is constructed arround a series of crampt flagstone mainstreets which form overlapping circles, with smaller strait roads linking the circiles to eachother at varrious points. The town posesses a fortified albit thin wall of querried stone. This wall posesses most of the features of a castle wall, though it is constructed from cheeper inferior stone. It would pose a minor chalange for an attacking army, though it's clear the wall's true purpose is to crush the hopes of bandits and marauders. The failry decent fortifications have not been wellmaintained over the years, and while functional are in dire need of some loving care and perhapse light renovation.

Groveness has a very calm atmosphere. People can be seen relaxing, scocilizing, and going about all manner of business other than the daily grind. Men, women, children, all can be seen enjoying life in a laid-back way in the many parks which line Groveness’s streets. Yet, deep down, you know this atmosphere is a carefully created illusion. You can see the ocasional seam in their tapestry. You’re not sure what has them doing their best to act so carefree, but act carefree they do.

Civic Infrastructure

Groveness has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Groveness.

Groveness has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Groveness has a Guild of Nurses, which is tasked with caring for the elderly and infirm in accordance with local ordinances, religious values, and customs.

Groveness has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Groveness has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Groveness's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Groveness possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Groveness's grid is powered by a boiler and turbine based power plant.

Groveness possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. In spite of the Galvanic Grid, these lights continue to use their old fule sources to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Groveness has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Groveness has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Groveness's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for its striking sculptural forms and often dazzling ornamental detail that characterizes the buildings general shape. The radiant colors, rich patterns, and symmetrical silhouettes employed by this style were backed up by rich decorative features including gardens, courtyards, extruded arches, domes, pointed domes, vaulted ceilings, elaborate painted and inlaid designs, and decorative sculptures.

In Groveness snow is warm to the touch and does not melt within city limits. Also it only happens during summer.

The Sagari near Groveness are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Groveness's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves drinking to channel Abjuration energies of tier 2 via proclamations.

Economy

The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. Groveness is known for its well built pedestrian paths, which include foot bridges to cross the main street at several high-traffic areas.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century the Kami spared the town from an attack. One of Groveness's local festivals commemorates this miracle.
